Engine suddenly cuts out
In the vehicle mentioned above, the engine may suddenly cut out after starting or even whilst driving. In some cases, the engine can then be restarted without any problems; in others, however, it fails to restart. No error codes are stored in the error memory.
The fuel pump control unit should be considered as the cause of the fault.
In these vehicles, the fuel pump is controlled “on demand”. There is no monitoring of low pressure. Consequently, a faulty control unit can cause the engine to stall.
In many cases, this problem can be resolved by replacing the fuel pump control unit. The control unit is located under the rear seat. Either directly on top of the service cover of the fuel tank or immediately beneath the cover. In order to ensure easier access, the cover can be rotated and also unclipped.
