Bulb of failure control lamp lights up sporadically

On the above-mentioned vehicles, the control lamp, which signals the failure of a bulb (light bulb) may suddenly light up. A visual inspection of the lighting equipment on the vehicle, however, does not reveal any defect.

With the help of a diagnostic device (e.g. Hella Gutmann mega macs X) and by reading out the error memory, it is often possible to determine which piece of lighting equipment is responsible for the error message.
Particular attention should be paid to the daytime running lamps. Malfunctions may occur here caused by the diminishing spring force of the bulb holder.
Poor contact causes burn marks on the holder and on the bulb. Apart from that, corrosion on the contacts can also be considered to be a cause of the fault.

In order to remedy this, both the bulb holder and also the bulb should be replaced and the error memory cleared.

In certain cases, this information can also apply to other vehicle makes.
