Rattling noises at the front axle wheel brake

On the vehicle models mentioned above, rattling noises may occur at the front axle wheel brake when driving on uneven road surfaces. If the brake pedal is depressed slightly, the noises disappear.

This may be caused by the design of the brake calliper carrier. The vehicle manufacturer offers modified brake calliper carriers with modified guide bolts and dust protection collars for these scenarios.

Corrective measure

Carry out a visual inspection. Check front axle brake system for damage, proper function, excessive dirt or wear. If necessary, partially disassemble the wheel brake for further inspection. If no defects can be diagnosed, check the brake calliper carriers and, if necessary, replace them with the modified parts sets.

The retrofit can be identified from the modified guide bolts with bush. (Image)

As part of this, please always observe the maintenance and repair notes provided by the vehicle manufacturer.

Please note

The following vehicles are affected.

Model codes: NDE180, NRE180, NRE185, WWE185, ZRE181, ZRE182, ZRE185 and ZWE186
