Engine difficult to start or will not start

The following problem is observed on the vehicles mentioned above.

Starting the engine requires several attempts or is not possible at all.
Furthermore, the engine may not run smoothly, there may be a lack of engine power or the engine may switch off during operation.

The following fault codes may be stored in the control unit:

  • P0089 Fuel pressure regulator 1 - impaired function
  • P228C Fuel pressure regulator 1, control limit exceeded - fuel pressure too low
  • P0325 Knock sensor 1, cylinder row 1 - circuit malfunction
  • P16E5 Fuel distributor pressure sensor - signal too high

The cause was diagnosed as insufficient mounting of the engine wiring harness ground cable around the cylinder head.

Please proceed as follows to rectify the problem: Clean the area around the loose mounting, check for damage and correctly re-establish the connection between the ground cable and the cylinder head.

Subsequently run a fault code query and go for a test drive to check the repair measure. Always observe the vehicle manufacturer's repair specifications!
