Engine control lamp is on and error codes P0300 up to P0304 are stored in the control unit

On the above-mentioned vehicle with a start-stop system, the engine control lamp may suddenly come on. At the same time, there may be a drop in engine performance. Error codes P0300 / P301 / P302 / P0303 / P0304 (cylinders 1-4 misfiring) may be stored in the control unit.

Possible causes are either a "software weakness" of the engine control unit or defective ignition coils.

In order to remedy this, it is advisable to first read off the manufacturing numbers of the ignition coils. If the numbers are before the four-digit number code 8208, the ignition coils should be replaced. In addition, a check must be run to see to what extent a software update for the engine control unit is available.

A software update can be carried out using Hella-Gutmann macsRemote Services or a pass-through-compatible Mega-Macs series diagnostic device. Furthermore, registered access to the vehicle manufacturer's online portal is required. If the appropriate equipment is not available, please contact an authorised specialist workshop.
