El motor Range Extender (imagen 1), también llamado motor de autonomía extendida, se emplea, entre otros, en vehículos eléctricos, como p.ej.

Se trata de un elemento auxiliar cuya función es la de aumentar la autonomía del vehículo eléctrico.

Por regla general, los motores Range Extender son motores de combustión que accionan el alternador y suministran corriente al motor eléctrico y a los acumuladores.
