De range extender (afbeelding 1), soms ook wel aangeduid als actieradiusvergroter, wordt onder andere toegepast bij elektrische voertuigen

Het gaat hierbij om een extra aggregaat dat de actieradius van het elektrische voertuig verhoogt.

Range extenders zijn doorgaans verbrandingsmotoren die een generator aandrijven en hiermee de elektromotor evenals de accu's van stroom voorzien.
