In the vehicle mentioned above, the ‘VSC OFF’ message may remain displayed on the instrument cluster after the battery has been disconnected or replaced.
The abbreviation ‘VSC’ stands for Vehicle Stability Control, which is the same as ‘ESP’ (Electronic Stability Programme).
A ‘drop in voltage’ in the vehicle’s electrical system or a sensor that is thought to be faulty may also cause the ‘VSC OFF’ indicator to light up.
The warning message cannot be switched off using the VSC switch in the centre console either. This means that stability control is disabled.
In such a case, it is advisable to read out the error memory (using a suitable diagnostic device, e.g. mega macs X). This helps to narrow down or identify the cause of the fault. If, for example, code C1210 is stored in the error memory, this indicates that the yaw rate sensor is wrongly calibrated.
In order to remedy the situation, the sensor should be recalibrated, and the error memory deleted.
A test drive must then be carried out.
