Unintentional steering movements without active steering input
In the vehicle type mentioned above, a software fault in the steering system may cause the steering to move unexpectedly. The steering movements occur without any active steering input and are classified as safety-related.
The problem has already been identified by the vehicle manufacturer and will be rectified as part of a service campaign using a software update. This involves updating the software of the affected control units to the latest version. The implementation of this measure is documented in the manufacturer’s system.
If vehicles with the problem of unintentional steering movements end up at your workshop, it is important to check whether the service campaign has already been carried out on the vehicle in question. It may still be possible that not all vehicles affected worldwide have been dealt with. Where appropriate, the vehicle manufacturer or a workshop authorised by the said manufacturer is to be contacted.
Once the cause of the fault has been eliminated, the error memory is to be deleted and a test drive carried out as a final step.
