HELLA pimps your truck: „Emmchen“ with upgraded lighting

25-07-2019

"Emmchen" is the nickname of Heiko Klotz's well-looked-after truck. As the main winner of the "HELLA pimps your truck" competition, Heiko was treated to new HELLA lighting. Find out below how the conversion went.

Before getting to work on the conversion, we got together with Heiko and discussed in detail what ideas he had for optimising the lighting on his "Emmchen". A check-up was also done. The truck was in great condition and deemed to be a "very healthy patient",
but Heiko said that it was lacking a bit in visibility, which is exactly what "Operation Emmchen" aimed to change. As a long-distance driver, Heiko is often driving at night and in bad weather conditions. This means that he depends on the road being perfectly illuminated so that the swap body and cargo can reach its destination on time and, most importantly, safely. The solution: The new HELLA auxiliary headlamp that significantly improves the large spot illumination and "wide" road illumination, making it much more visible. Just like its functionality, the optics should not come up short either: they enjoy a particularly good upgrade thanks to the products used and the pre-assembled lamp bracket.

No sooner said than done: Kai Bullock and Heiko Arensmeier, two real workshop professionals, got to work in Heiko's trusted workshop at SCANIA Bielefeld.
This is where they used their professional skills to mount the pre-assembled lamp bracket with the HELLA auxiliary headlamps to the driver's cab and configured the electrical wiring.

That alone gave it an impressive new look. But that wasn't enough: the "Emmchen" was also given an optical and functional upgrade at the rear end using none other than HELLA's innovative full LED rear combination lamp with dynamic (wiping) direction indicators.

Details on the HELLA products used:

1 x HELLA LED Light Bar 470 Single Twin

Small but powerful: the extremely flat light bar fits in with the vehicle's overall image because of its aerodynamic installation in the roof. It also delivers excellent long-range illumination in the spot range with 2 x 8 energy efficient, bright high-power LEDs in a joint housing.

2 x HELLA RokLUME 380 N

The robust RokLUME 380 N auxiliary high beam headlamp was developed for heavy-duty applications with particularly high illumination requirements, literally transforming night into day. The light colour is similar to daylight. This, coupled with its extremely extensive and homogenous illumination, ensures a range of up to 400 m, generated by 12 high-power LEDs.

2 x full LED truck rear combination lamps

All light functions have LED and the lamp boasts a robust design with a replaceable, non-patterned lens. The HELLA full LED truck rear combination lamp is ideally suited to heavy-duty applications and offers a major plus point: the innovative direction indicator generates a dynamic "wiping effect", ensuring undivided attention and increased safety in the day and at night. The environment is also a winner as the lamp consumes 80 % less power and emits 80 kg less CO2 each year.

With this equipment, Heiko and his "Emmchen" are now out for long trips on Germany's roads with even better visibility. The practical test was a maiden voyage through the Teutoburg Forest, which we joined them on. They both mastered it with flying colours, as the pictures show! On the picture slider, you can find images with normal low beam and normal high beam, and with the Twin Light Bar and RokLUME switched on. What an enormous difference!
