Burnt-through magnetic clutch
The burnt-through magnetic clutch is not always caused by the compressor, but also by the low-pressure switch. This is located on the accumulator (filter drier) and is recognised by its white colour.
This switch type's high switching sensitivity causes a significantly high "switch-on" and "switch-off" frequency. For this compressor, this means high loads that finally lead to a failure of the magnetic clutch.
In addition, the driving comfort is impaired due to the frequent switching on and off of the compressor.
Adjustments on the low-pressure switch using an adjustment screw do not sufficiently rectify this problem. The installation of a different pressure switch corrects this. It is recognised by its yellow/orange-coloured housing and available under the part no.: F3AZ-19E561-A at Ford.
For a Mondeo with burnt-through clutch, please exchange in addition to the clutch and compressor also the low-pressure switch.
