Audi Q5 - onboard diagnostics not functioning

With the above-mentioned vehicle type, it can happen that the onboard diagnostics (OBD) do not function and therefore faults are not reliably recognised and identified or stored in the error memory. If the above-mentioned defect is detected, it may be related to a software error.

If no other defects can be localised as the cause in the course of troubleshooting and during an ECU diagnosis, a check should be run to determine how far a software update is available for the engine control unit. Furthermore, registered access to the vehicle manufacturer's online portal is required. If the appropriate equipment is not available, please contact an authorised specialist workshop. The update restores the functional and diagnostic capability of the onboard diagnostics and then the entries in the error memory are made in a reliable way.

This problem has already been recognised by the vehicle manufacturer and is now part of a service campaign. It is possible that this procedure has not yet been carried out on all the vehicles affected. If vehicles with such problems end up at your workshop, please bear this in mind and check whether the service campaign has already been carried out on the vehicle in question. If the service initiative has indeed already been carried out, this is noted in the vehicle's service booklet. Once the cause of the fault has been rectified, delete the error memory and then carry out a test drive.
