Poor engine performance: Error codes P0010, P0016, P0088, P0341 stored in the control unit

In the case of the above-mentioned vehicles, there can be a reduction of engine performance. The error codes P0010/P0016/P0088/P0341 are often stored in the error memory. These refer to the variable valve control or to the crankshaft/camshaft position.

In addition to the classic sources of faults when it comes to the timing belt drive, particular attention should be paid to the oil pressure valve of the variable camshaft control (see picture). Blockages or coking of the oil bores can lead to the above-mentioned symptoms. These usually contribute to faulty camshaft adjustment.

In order to remedy this, the oil pressure valve of the camshaft control can be cleaned. In some cases, an immediate replacement is the best option. It is advisable to also inspect the area of the oil bore in the cylinder head and to check for contamination.

With the help of a diagnostic device (e.g. Hella Gutmann mega macs X), the error memory should then be deleted. Finally, a test drive has to be carried out.
