Mazda CX5 - Emergency release of the electromechanical parking brake

Vehicles equipped with an electromechanical parking brake have an emergency release that allows the workshop to release the parking brake if the system fails.

Emergency release procedure:

• Secure vehicle against rolling away
• Release the parking brake
• Disconnect battery
• Disconnect the electrical plug connections on the actuators of the rear axle brake calipers
• Undo and remove the screws on the actuator
• Carefully remove the actuator from the brake caliper
• Turn the spindle drive (1) in the brake caliper counterclockwise with a suitable tool until the brake pads have come off the brake disc and the brake is free to move.
