The Solar Butterfly Tour goes round the world – and HELLA is aboard

Even as a child, founder and inventor Louis Palmer thought that our society and our politicians were compelled to do something about climate change. Today it is patently clear: the increasing impact of climate change on our planet is enormous. But instead of despairing, Louis Palmer went in search of a solution. This quest ended in the evolving of a unique idea: the Solar Butterfly Tour. The inspiration for this was his previously developed solar taxi, in which he had already travelled around the world.

A butterfly – powered by solar cells

In order to attract attention and create a strong symbol for environmental protection, Louis Palmer decided on a unique means of transport – the Solar Butterfly. The trailer in the shape of a butterfly is powered by extremely efficient solar cells and shows how renewable energy can be used to travel around the world emission-free. The so-called Tiny House is towed by an electric car and has already visited numerous European capitals since its launch on the Solar Butterfly Tour in the spring of 2022. This year the trip is taking Louis Palmer and his team to North and South America.

The Solar Butterfly Tour

Together with his team, Louis Palmer plans to visit more than 1,000 sustainability-oriented projects on six continents by 2025 and to organise events with the local population, schools, politicians and the press. And the objective of the Solar Butterfly Tour? To change the world in a positive way and to drive forward solutions to combat climate change!

The Solar Butterfly Tour makes it possible to travel around the world in a climate-friendly way. How do we do that? You can find out here.

But what is the connection between the Solar Butterfly Tour and HELLA? In order to contribute to climate protection, it was mainly LED light sources that were first used for energy-saving purposes. And ever since then, this kind of light source has accompanied the Solar Butterfly on its journey. For example, our headlamps are used in the interior of the trailer and also in the entire exterior lighting of the vehicle. These measures not only contribute to the safety of the team and the vehicle, but also show how companies like HELLA can help to support environmentally friendly technologies.

The Solar Butterfly Tour: a step in the right direction

HELLA is proud to be part of the Solar Butterfly Tour and to contribute to environmental protection. It is an example of how companies can take responsibility in order to make the world a better place to live in. But all things considered, this project shows that we have the choice of being part of the problem or part of the solution when it comes to climate change. We have the resources and the knowledge to change course and create a sustainable future. This means that everyone in his or her own way is able to contribute to the protection of nature because, when it comes to our planet, every little helps.
