Whistling noises from the exhaust system during acceleration
If whistling noises are detected coming from the area of the exhaust system during acceleration, a possible cause may be a defective gasket on the exhaust manifold.
In certain cases, leaks may occur on the sealing surfaces of the first and fourth cylinders as a result of the vehicle design. If no other defects are found in the exhaust system during the fault diagnosis, the seal (1) should be checked and replaced if necessary.
Recommended procedure:
- Visual inspection of the exhaust manifold to check for leaks
- Removal of the exhaust manifold and thorough cleaning of the sealing surfaces
- Installation of the exhaust manifold with new gasket and new fastening nuts
