Regeneration of the diesel particulate filter not possible, particulate filter heavily loaded
In the above-mentioned vehicle type, it is possible that the diesel particulate filter is heavily loaded and regeneration no longer takes place. If it is a case of the above-mentioned fault, and if no definite faults have been detected in the periphery of the affected systems during troubleshooting, then special attention should be paid to the glow plugs.
Among other things, glow plugs ensure that diesel fuel burns completely at low temperatures and they also increase the combustion chamber temperature, which is necessary for the regeneration of the diesel particulate filter. If one or more glow plugs fail, more soot is produced, which clogs the diesel particulate filter. The defect in the glow plugs also prevents regeneration.
In the course of further troubleshooting, the power supply and the current consumption at the glow plugs should be checked. More precise values for current consumption can be found in the technical documentation of the relevant vehicle manufacturer. The glow plugs should then be removed and visually checked for defects. Please refer to the technical information on rod glow plugs in the HELLA TECH WORLD. If you notice any peculiarities, replacing the glow plugs can be of help.
Once the cause of the fault has been rectified, delete the error memory and then carry out a test drive.
