Vehicle level sensor – Function

Function

The system is based on a PCB-based inductive angular position sensor and operates with high precision even under difficult conditions. It records the exact position of the vehicle – for example via the position of chassis components – and supplies this information as input signals to the relevant control units (e.g. for chassis, shock absorbers, air suspension or ESP).

There, the sensor signals are evaluated together with other input data in order to specifically control the respective actuators (e.g. valves, compressor, adjustable shock absorbers, active stabilisers).
The sensor therefore forms an essential basis for the precise control of systems such as:

  • Adaptive shock absorber control
  • Active chassis systems (e.g. air suspension, levelling, roll control, ESP)
Vehicle level sensor – Typical causes of failure

Typical causes of failure

Workshops frequently encounter the following causes of failure:

  • No supply voltage or interrupted connecting cables
  • Internal short circuits that cause faulty signals
  • External mechanical damage
Vehicle level sensor expertise from HELLA
