Sporadic engine judder
With the above-mentioned vehicle type, the engine may jerk and only speeds of 80 km/h – 100 km/h can be reached. If this fault is found but no definite faults have been detected in the periphery of the affected systems during troubleshooting, particular attention should be paid to the differential pressure sensor of the diesel particulate filter and the associated hoses.
The engine control unit can use information from the differential pressure sensor to calculate the load of the diesel particulate filter. If there are defects in the hoses or on the sensor, the necessary values may be distorted or completely missing from the control unit. As a result of this, the engine control switches to emergency running to protect the components. Power and top end speed are reduced in order to prevent possible damage to the engine.
As part of the troubleshooting process, the parameters of the differential pressure sensor should be checked with a suitable diagnostic device during a test drive. If the values on the test drive are not plausible, for example static or they do not match the load condition, the differential pressure sensor and the associated connecting hoses to the particulate filter must be removed and visually inspected in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. If cracks or other abnormalities are detected on the hoses, replacing these hoses can remedy the problem.
Once the cause of the fault has been rectified, delete the error memory and then carry out a test drive.
For your own safety and the safety of other road users, test and trial drives must always be carried out with a second person (driver) present.
