Error memory entries relating to the diesel particulate sensor
In the case of the vehicle type mentioned above, error memory entries relating to the diesel particulate sensor may be stored in the engine control unit, or a corresponding warning message may be displayed. This fault may be caused by a defective diesel particulate sensor which is providing incorrect or implausible measured values.
The diesel particulate sensor is integrated into the exhaust system downstream of the diesel particulate filter. A measuring sensor is used to record the amount of particles in the exhaust gas. This information is used to control regeneration strategies and also functions relating to emissions.
If no abnormalities have been detected in the power supply or the plug connections during troubleshooting, replacing the diesel particulate sensor may resolve the issue.
If the diesel particulate sensor needs to be replaced, it is essential to ensure that it is installed in the correct position. For models identified appropriately, the marking or QR code on the sensor housing must face downwards (see illustration). Incorrect installation may result in the sensor failing again. The vehicle manufacturer’s specifications are applicable. Any markings on the spare part are intended to guide you during the installation process.
The sensor must be fitted to the exhaust system using the tightening torque specified by the vehicle manufacturer. The installation location must be dry and completely free of all types of contamination.
After replacing the diesel particulate sensor, it may be necessary to update the software on the higher-level control units.
A software update can be carried out, for example, via Hella Gutmann macsRemote Services or by using a pass-through-capable diagnostic device from the mega macs series. Furthermore, registered access to the vehicle manufacturer's online portal is required. If the appropriate equipment is not available, please contact an authorised specialist workshop.
Once the cause of the fault has been eliminated, delete the error memory and then carry out a test drive.
