HELLA light tunnel turns into a film set

01-08-2022

An unusual leading actor, an even more unusual film set: the HELLA light tunnel became the filming location for a video clip about the SUPERSONIC motorhome from ADRIA. The high-tech location at HELLA's headquarters in Lippstadt, situated in the German state of Westphalia, provided a particularly vivid demonstration of how important vehicle lighting is for driving comfort.

The keypoints in short

  • At 140 m long and 11 m wide, the HELLA light tunnel is the largest of its kind in Europe
  • The SUPERSONIC motorhome from ADRIA was filmed and photographed with three cameras
  • The result is an impressive video clip about the effect of first-class vehicle lighting

A somewhat different road movie

As befits a real film star, the SUPERSONIC motorhome from ADRIA also had to ""get into its makeup"", so to speak, before filming began: the vehicle was once again polished to perfection immediately after delivery and before filming began, so that it could show itself from its best side during filming.

The video was intended to demonstrate how vehicle lighting affects the driving comfort of the motorhome. And for this, the HELLA light tunnel – the largest of its kind in Europe – was of course the ideal filming location. In the building at HELLA's headquarters in Lippstadt, can be found a 140-m-long and 11-m-wide asphalt road and also state-of-the-art testing equipment with which vehicle lighting can be put through its paces.

Our photos show how the day of shooting went ""behind the scenes"" – from the delivery of the motorhome in the early morning through the shoot in the light tunnel right up to the final picture in front of the building. The shots of the front lighting and the rear lighting from HELLA were awaited with particular excitement.

Delivery of the ADRIA motorhome in Lippstadt

This sight makes motorhome fans' hearts beat faster: the SUPERSONIC from ADRIA is delivered by car transporter to the HELLA light tunnel in Lippstadt. The vehicle also makes a huge impression in the daylight thanks to its striking design.

Preparing the SUPERSONIC motorhome for filming

Preparing a vehicle for filming is a job for experts: from the specially made ""HELLA"" licence plate to the cleaning of the lighting components and emblems, everything has been thought of to ensure that the SUPERSONIC motorhome makes a perfect appearance.

Pre-shooting discussion and planning

Every scene and every camera angle are thoroughly planned before shooting begins so that the result corresponds exactly to the client's ideas. Various lamps, placed on a ""roller-like"" apparatus in the foreground, are tested in the light tunnel.

Driving the motorhome into the light tunnel

When vehicles enter the light tunnel, it still looks like a building. But as soon as the large doors are closed, the illusion created inside is virtually perfect: the light tunnel then looks like a street or road at night.

The motorhome is given the right light

Experts together: it goes without saying that lighting also plays a crucial role in filming. After the lights for filming were set up, the lighting solutions of the motorhome were filmed with a professional camera and also with a GoPro camera.

The ADRIA rear combination lamps show off their skills in the light tunnel

The SUPERSONIC motorhome also makes a big impression in the dark with its striking design. The ruby red rear combination lamps from HELLA also contribute to this, creating a light signature that is discreet yet unmistakable.

When it comes to headlamps, the right setting is what counts

Motorhomes are often only moved for a few weeks in a year – but then over long distances. That's why it's so important that vehicle lighting provides optimum visibility and at the same time maximum comfort. During filming, HELLA's Bi-LED headlamps are therefore once again precisely adjusted.

Closing shot with motorhome in front of the light tunnel

Filming in the HELLA light tunnel is something special – especially when a motorhome takes centre stage. But the impressive result shows that the location was perfectly chosen for this video clip.
