They are cheaper to manufacture, save weight, minimise noise due to their design and protect the rim from dust and dirt thanks to their closed design. Thanks to their self-reinforcement, drum brakes develop a higher braking effect with less actuation effort. Less wear than brake pads also allows for longer maintenance intervals.
