Adaptive LED headlamps cause noise when ignition is switched on
On the above-mentioned vehicle with an AFS headlamp system, the failure control lamp may all of a sudden come on.
AFS (adaptive front lighting system) is a lighting system that uses movable lenses to adapt to the road conditions, the weather and to the speed situation. It is a self-adjusting system as a result of predefined light distributions and thus it can also automatically take into account ambient surroundings (city, country, motorway).
In addition to the warning lamp coming on, a rattling/humming noise is heard from the headlamp when the ignition is switched on. Error codes B0984/B0985/B1461/B1462 (headlamp control module; actuator for dynamic cornering light) are often stored in the control unit.
If other causes (e.g. faulty power supply, loose plug connections) for the malfunction can be ruled out, a software update of the headlamp control units can be considered to be the remedy.
A software update can be carried out, for example, via Hella-Gutmann macsRemote Services or by using a pass-through-capable diagnostic device from the mega macs series. Furthermore, registered access to the vehicle manufacturer's online portal is required. If the appropriate equipment is not available, please contact an authorised specialist workshop.
