HELLA-tested quality

With an impressive length of 140 metres, HELLA's light tunnel in Lippstadt, Germany, is the longest of its kind in Europe and a central part of quality testing. Extensive light tests are carried out in this state-of-the-art test environment to ensure that HELLA products meet the highest standards.

HELLA bulbs are also thoroughly tested. These long-term tests determine the optimum light output, prevent glare in traffic and assess the vibration and impact resistance and lifetime of the bulbs.

More light = More safety

HELLA bulbs: More light = More safety

Light colour and intensity play a key role in safety and comfort when driving.

The light colour is defined by the colour temperature in Kelvin and significantly influences the perception of the surroundings.

Standard halogen lamps typically produce a warm, yellowish light colour, while xenon and LED lamps offer a higher colour temperature and therefore produce a whiter or bluer light that is closer to natural daylight.

A higher colour temperature improves contrast, making it easier to see objects and obstacles.

The light intensity, measured in lumens, determines how brightly and well illuminated the road is. High-quality lamps, such as the performance models from HELLA, offer a much higher light intensity which means a longer range and wider illumination.

This combination of optimum light colour and high light intensity enhances driving safety, especially when driving at night and when visibility is poor

The right bulb for every situation/application

HELLA offers a wide range of lighting technologies that are tailored to the different needs of drivers and increase road safety.

The classic halogen technology is very good value for money and is easy to replace which makes it an attractive choice. The glass capsules are filled with halogen gas and contain an electrically heated tungsten wire which emits light.

Xenon lamps, on the other hand, offer a significantly higher light output and feature ionised xenon gas through which electricity passes to produce a brighter, wider light distribution.

HELLA uses LED technology for maximum efficiency and durability which not only offers outstanding illumination and energy savings, but is also extremely versatile and provides a wide range of options for stylish vehicle design.

How long do bulbs last?

HELLA bulbsHow long do bulbs last?

The durability of vehicle bulbs is a decisive in terms of reliability and economy in road traffic. Instead of kilometres, the lifetime is defined by operating hours, which are measured in two categories: B3 and Tc.

B3 indicates the minimum number of hours at which 97% of the bulbs are still functional, while Tc marks the time at which 63% of the bulbs have failed. Standard lamps, such as an H7 lamp, typically achieve a B3 of 300 hours and a Tc of 500 hours in accordance with IEC requirements.

Long-life lamps, such as the long-life models from HELLA, last up to three times longer which significantly reduces the number of times they need to be replaced.
