The HELLA Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) ensures precise measurement of the battery characteristics of voltage, current and temperature.

The IBS is attached directly to the negative pole of the battery via the pole terminal. Along with the terminal, the mechanical part of the battery sensor is comprised of the shunt and ground pin.
The shunt is attached to the vehicle's load path and is used as a measuring resistor to measure the current indirectly. On the ground pin, the existing ground cable can be conveniently attached, for example, to the optionally available battery pole adapter.

The electronics are located in a molded housing with a connector as an interface for energy management.
The communication interface for the higher-level control unit is the LIN protocol.
The supply voltage, which is simultaneously used as reference voltage for the voltage measurement, is provided to the battery through the connection to the positive pole.

The Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) provides information about the current energy status, allowing users to efficiently plan their energy supply.

Particularly in the area of emergency vehicles, an unexpected battery failure can have critical consequences.
To carefully handle the energy of the system battery, it is necessary to know the charge state, age and changes, because studies show that weak batteries are the reason for vehicle failures in over 50% of cases and are, therefore, their main cause.
By using the IBS, the energy management system can respond more quickly in the case of a critical battery condition and influence both the consumer behavior and the alternator.

The HELLA IBS is designed such that it can be integrated very easily into existing environments, both electrically and mechanically.
