HELLA further expands company headquarters in Lippstadt

  • Automotive supplier is investing in the new construction of a modern visitor, administrative and exhibition center at its Lippstadt company headquarters
  • Opening planned for mid-2019
  • Urban planning competition scheduled for former Steinstrasse company premises

Lippstadt, October 12, 2017. Lighting and electronics specialist HELLA invests in its Lippstadt location. A new visitor, administrative and exhibition center is under construction in immediate proximity to the historic company headquarters. At the same time, an urban planning competition is scheduled for the future use of the former Steinstrasse company premises. HELLA thus continues to further transform the company headquarters into a high-tech location.

"With its 125 locations and some 40,000 employees, HELLA is already positioned globally today. This international network will continue to grow," says HELLA CEO Dr. Rolf Breidenbach. "The importance of our Lippstadt headquarters as control center for the global HELLA network and its respective responsibilities will therefore further increase. We must also create the spatial prerequisites to this end."

The new visitor, administrative and exhibition center will be constructed as extension to the HELLA Globe along the Rixbecker Strasse in Lippstadt. On a total surface of 7,000 square meters, the new four storey-building will not only create state-of-the-art working conditions for some 300 employees. It will also feature conference and training rooms as well as an exhibition center for customers and visitors. The rear section will also dispose of an interior space reminiscent of a campus.

With its new building, housing mostly company functions with many visitors, HELLA will continue the further development and modernization of the company headquarters. The construction measures for the new visitor, administrative and exhibition center are scheduled to start in the summer of 2018 while opening is anticipated for mid-2019.

The new HELLA building complex will simultaneously close an urban planning gap on one of the most-frequented streets in Lippstadt. The currently still existing buildings on the Rixbecker Strasse premises will therefore give way to the construction project. The new building will consequently speak the architectural language of the adjacent HELLA Globe, thus also building a conceptual bridge to the company headquarters steeped in tradition.

"For Lippstadt, this is an outstanding development. We therefore welcome the planned construction measures," says Lippstadt mayor Christof Sommer. "We are particularly glad that HELLA, our largest employer, is making a firm commitment in favor of its location while continuing investing in it. Furthermore, the move away from the former company grounds on the Steinstrasse will free up a prime piece of real estate in the heart of Lippstadt, which we urgently need for our continued urban planning development." We very much need that space."

In the context of the further construction developments at the HELLA headquarters in Lippstadt, planning is also underway for transforming the 50,000 square meters of the former company premises by the headquarters into a mixed-use urban neighborhood, in close collaboration with the city of Lippstadt. Due to its exposed location in the city center and the required inclusion into its urban surroundings, an urban planning competition is currently in the making. Construction measures here will probably only start from the year 2020 following the conclusion of the competition as well as the planning and allocation processes thereafter.
