Vienna, Austria, December 21, 2015. HELLA Mining has developed a new optical system to bring the safety and comfort of highway driving to mining operations. The ZEROGLARE optical system ensures that light from oncoming traffic does not blind oncoming drivers, thus eliminating discomfort and preventing disability glare. The ZEROGLARE system has a sharp horizontal cut-off that directs the light onto the ground in front of the vehicle instead of into the field of vision of oncoming vehicle operators. Based on HELLA Automotive LED optical developments in high-end LED headlights for luxury cars, HELLA Mining has developed an extremely robust worklight that offers all the benefits of highway driving.

Most optical systems utilized in the mining industry are ‘off the shelf’ components from household downlights or outdoor floodlights. The danger of glare increases with the output of light, with light hitting the eyes of oncoming vehicle operators. This has proven to be such an issue that numerous mine sites that had tested LED worklights reverted back to their original lighting systems, despite the many benefits of LED technology. At HELLA Mining, we consulted with the mining industry and invested into the research and development of an optical system that would emit light only to where it was needed. The result is ZEROGLARE providing increased visibility and improved safety for operators in both surface and underground mining operations.

HELLA Mining is proud to introduce the RokLUME 380 and RokLUME 280 LED worklights. Among the world’s most advanced heavy-duty worklights for the mining industry, RokLUME 380 and RokLUME 280 incorporate more than 100 years of expertise in automotive optical design. By integrating the power and durability of the AS 5000LED with the optical technology developed for luxury cars, HELLA has created ZEROGLARE – a new benchmark in mining equipment lighting.

The RokLUME 380 and RokLUME 280 feature powerful light engines of 7,500 and 4,300 measured lumens respectively, with a choice of 5 different light distributions including our industry’s first ZEROGLARE optic. To meet the demands of different weather conditions, RokLUME is available in 2 colour temperatures: 5,000° Kelvin colour temperature for enhanced colour rendering for normal conditions and 1,800° Kelvin colour temperature for minimal backscatter when used in fog or snow.

Advanced design technologies and assembly robotics ensure that RokLUME is fully sealed and submersible to meet the stringent requirements of IP6K9K and IP6K8, ensuring no dust or water ingress can occur. RokLUME features an advanced NanoSafe non-stick and easy-to-clean surface coating, and is easy to install thanks to the Nord-Lock washers and the aiming angles laser-engraved onto the bracket. Connecting the RokLUME 380 to the machine is safe thanks to the double insulated silicone supply cable and heavy-duty cable gland. We also supply a DT Connector with both ends of the plug, so retrofitting as well as new installations are a breeze. Only the best manufacturing materials were considered during the development stage of RokLUME, including a high-impact resistant hardened polycarbonate compound lens, stainless steel bracket and premium-grade, anti-corrosion aluminium housing. A tried-and-tested rubber dampening system ensures that adverse effects through vibration are kept to a minimum. Statutory approvals include ECE R10 and RCM compliance.
