One Circular Headlamp: FORVIA HELLA wins the German Sustainability Award 2027
- “One Circular Headlamp” considers the entire product life cycle, from material sourcing to repairability and recyclability
- Findings from the publicly funded NALYSES research project are to be applied to other applications and product areas
- Interdisciplinary collaboration with industry and academic partners
Lippstadt, 22 October 2026. International automotive supplier FORVIA HELLA has been named a winner of the German Sustainability Award 2027 in the Products category. The award recognizes the “Circular One Eco Headlamp” concept, a sustainable headlamp concept developed by FORVIA HELLA as part of the publicly funded NALYSES consortium, together with the BMW Group, Covestro, geba, Miele, the Heinz Nixdorf Institute of Paderborn University, the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronic Design Engineering IEM and Hamm-Lippstadt University of Applied Sciences. The project’s results are intended to inform the development of future generations of headlamps and to be applied in other application and product areas.
The NALYSES research project, which concluded in June this year and resulted in the “One Circular Headlamp” concept, set out to explore how products could be designed and manufactured with greater resource efficiency and lower emissions in the future, using a headlamp as an example. The German Sustainability Award 2027 recognizes, in particular, the concept’s sustainable product design and material strategies, its recycling options and the headlamp’s use phase. Compared with a conventional product, the headlamp concept can reduce CO₂ emissions by around half over the entire product life cycle, from the materials used and manufacturing through the use phase to reuse and recycling at the end of its service life.
Juan Manuel Mollà, Managing Director Lighting at FORVIA HELLA, says: “This award is an outstanding recognition of the commitment and joint efforts of everyone involved in the NALYSES consortium. I would like to thank our team and project partners, whose expertise has helped generate important insights into more resource-efficient product design. The findings from the project make an important contribution to shaping future headlamp design and provide a valuable basis for further progress towards a climate-neutral value chain.”
