Mobility is no longer conceivable today without electronics and software. For HELLA and Faurecia, these areas are therefore among the key growth areas that are being jointly addressed within the Electronics Business Group. It consists of two independent units: one is based at HELLA, the other, Clarion Electronics, at Faurecia. The two units complement each other excellently: technologically, regionally and in terms of the customer portfolio. Under the joint umbrella FORVIA, the two electronics units will work closely together in the future. Björn Twiehaus, HELLA Managing Director responsible for the Electronics division, and Olivier Durand, Executive Vice President of Faurecia Clarion Electronics, give short video statements on the current positioning and future prospects of the Electronics Business Group. Björn Twiehaus kicks things off. (Editor's note: The video was taken before Russia's attack on Ukraine).

Electrification, autonomous driving and software are the major trends in the automotive industry. "These are the areas in which we will continue to invest the most," Björn Twiehaus emphasizes in a video statement. For example, he said, HELLA is now a competent partner for all stages of electromobility, a leading global supplier of 24 and 77 GHz radar sensors, and in July 2020 established the Global Software House as a central unit for software development.

Björn Twiehaus sees challenges in the global supply shortages, for example of semiconductors and microchips, which are expected to continue until 2023. At the same time, HELLA must move closer to "perfect software development" without iterations to become as lean and robust as possible, he said. Above all, however, and this is the greatest challenge, the ideal middle ground must be found between agility and flexibility on the one hand, and standardization and modularization on the other.

When asked about the future of the electronics division, Björn Twiehaus refers to a quote by Charles Darwin: "It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will prevail in the end, but the one who is most willing to change. "Constant change is the new normal," Twiehaus emphasizes. "We therefore need to get closer to our global customers to understand their future needs. We need to optimize our relationships with our business partners. But the most important thing is the passion of the employees for technology, for innovation and for continuous improvement.

Twiehaus emphasizes that the cooperation with Faurecia will also be a key lever for the future success of the Electronics division: "With new customers, additional product fields and technologies, and additional experienced employees, we are jointly paving the way for the future.

In short video clips, the managers of the three HELLA Business Groups Lighting, Electronics and Lifecycle Solutions explain what future opportunities they see, what challenges the divisions are facing and how they can benefit from the cooperation with Faurecia. In addition to the article about Björn Twiehaus, Managing Director of Electronics, a video statement by Dr. Frank Huber has already been published. Huber is responsible for the Business Group Lighting at HELLA.
