Oil pressure and temperature sensors

It’s always better to measure twice: The HELLA oil pressure and temperature sensor (OPS+T) is based on a multi-chip module (MCM) and simultaneously measures two important parameters that are essential for reliable engine function: the absolute oil pressure and the oil temperature.

The latter is measured by the OPS+T via a diode integrated in the MCM directly in the main oil duct behind the oil filter. The absolute oil pressure is measured by a piezo-resistive cell. Both values are continuously recorded and reported to the higher-level control unit for evaluation. The pressure value is used to control the mechanical or electronic oil pump – for reduced consumption and lower CO2 emissions. The oil temperature is a key parameter for the thermal management control of the engine, and contributes significantly to smooth engine operation.

Both oil temperature and pressure are transmitted from the OPS+T to the engine control unit via a PWM (pulse width modulation) output signal. The multi-chip module is extraordinarily robust and, thanks to the patented technology, absolutely leak-proof against oils.
