Lippstadt, March 19, 2019. Lighting and electronics expert HELLA will be presenting its latest products at bauma in Munich, the world's leading trade show for the construction machinery and mining sector, from April 8 to 14, 2019 (hall A5, booth 436). For the first time, the company is presenting a new design beacon to the public. It works with a new precision technology and thus creates a unique appearance. Its flat, simple-black design allows it to integrate itself into the respective vehicle. Despite a minimal light exit area, it achieves optimal light values and can therefore be used even under the most adverse conditions. By the end of the year, the design beacon will be available for original equipment manufacturers and the independent aftermarket.

Another highlight at the booth is the new LED worklight series "Modular Worklight". Its design was based on the "Shapeline" modular lighting series. The company had developed this to enable manufacturers to create a consistent light signature – from reversing lights and rear fog lights to side marker and clearance lamps to navigation and daytime running lights. With the "Modular Worklight" series, worklights in the matching design series "Tech Design" (classic straight-line) and "Style Design" (curved-dynamic) are now also available for the first time. The new worklight series can also be fully integrated into the cab roof. This offers more protection and guarantees better heat dissipation of the LEDs.

VISIOTECH projection technology enables communication by using light

In addition to design and individuality, the construction and mining industries are particularly concerned with safety and increasing comfort. HELLA developed the VISIOTECH projection technology in order to facilitate communication by using light. Thereby danger zones can be optically marked or demarcated as required, in order to be able to warn and protect the surrounding area in good time. There are already four products with this technology on the market: the LED Projection Module, the warning lights SL60 LED and Module 50 LED Spot as well as, especially for mining vehicles, the LED warning light RokLUME S700 Red. The LED Projection Module was specially developed for original equipment and projects a warning symbol on the floor. If so required, other symbols can be developed and set up in collaboration with the vehicle manufacturer.

The warning lights SL60 LED and Module 50 LED Spot are available for original equipment manufacturers as well as independent aftermarket. For both variants, a special lens optic allows the light beams to converge so much that a strip-shaped warning line or circular warning dot is projected onto the ground. The projected lines can also be used for simpler vehicle navigation.

The LED warning light RokLUME S700 Red utilizes the same principle, and projects a wide red marking onto the ground. Thanks to its powerful light output, the warning light can also be used on vehicles with high mounting positions and is therefore particularly suitable for mining vehicles.

Electronics expertise for special applications

HELLA not only uses its decades of experience in large-scale passenger car production to develop new lighting technologies, but also contributes them to the design and further development of electronic components such as intelligent battery sensors, radio remote controls, actuators, and sensors.

Intelligent battery sensors play a central role in vehicle energy management. You need to be able to measure the battery charge status, ageing and any changes to your battery to use the energy in the vehicle electrical system carefully. Connected directly to the negative battery terminal, this intelligent battery sensor by HELLA continually measures voltage, current, and temperature. Appropriate algorithms can then use these measurements to determine the battery’s charge level and signs of ageing and subsequently plan energy reserves. This allows the energy management system to react quickly in case of a critical battery state and influence both consumer behavior and the alternator.

With the HELLA radio remote control system, construction machinery users can now enjoy the benefits of conveniently unlocking the cab door typical in the automotive sector. The radio remote control can be equipped with up to two buttons. When used in conjunction with an additional control unit, extra functions, such as “Coming Home” scenarios can also be used alongside the standard locking function. HELLA is now also offering a new version which, if required, can exclusively implement functions such as "Coming Home" scenarios for the actuation of the beacons and worklights. Previously, it was not possible to order just these functions when unlocking the door was not needed or desired. A further advantage is that vehicle manufacturers do not have to interfere with either the door mechanism or the vehicle electronics.
