Horns and fanfares
Powerful sounds meet robust technology – a wide selection of sounds for safe signalling in road traffic.
Horns and fanfares – powerful sound for powerful vehicles
Finding the right horn – that's what matters
For which vehicle is the horn intended?
From cars and transporters to motor homes: The vehicle electrical system is crucial – this is usually 12V in cars and 24V in larger vehicles. The choice between a 12V signal horn and a 24V dual horn therefore also depends on the area of application.
What is the horn for?
Is it simply a replacement, or is more volume or a more customised acoustic pattern required? While the classic 12V signal horn sounds more concise and functional, the 24V two-tone horn delivers a full, distinctive sound – popular with tuning enthusiasts.
Does the horn have to be approved?
This might seem like a banal question, but it's crucial: Not every fanfare can be used in road traffic. HELLA offers numerous ECE-approved models that are legally compliant and roadworthy – without compromising on sound quality.
Horn 12V – compact, reliable, safe
Classic solution for cars and transporters
The 12V signal horn is the standard solution for most vehicles – and ideal for drivers who value functionality, safety and straightforward retrofitting.
Easy to install
Many HELLA models can be easily mounted on existing holders. The 12V horns come in a range of compact designs which makes them particularly flexible – and can be accommodated in the engine compartment even when space is limited.
Ideal for everyday use and replacement
Whether you are replacing a faulty original horn or performing a specific upgrade – the 12V horn makes it all worthwhile owing to its durability, clear sound characteristics and tested quality.
Our highlights
B133: Powerful signalling effect everywhere
The B133 has a penetrating dual tone frequency with an attention-grabbing acoustic presence. With a robust distinctive design, it provides unmistakable signals in city traffic, off-road or on long journeys and is ideal for vehicles where every signal counts.
TE12: Reliable signal in all weather conditions
The TE12 has an impressive waterproof design with sloping grilles that reliably repel water and dust. The horn therefore works permanently even under extreme weather conditions, thus ensuring maximum safety on the road.
H7 +200% performance: More visibility at night
The H7 +200% performance bulb provides up to 200% more light and a light beam with up to 80 m longer throw for better visibility in road traffic. Whiter light improves road illumination – for greater safety and comfort.
Two-tone fanfare 24V – the powerful sound for individualists
Powerful sound with character
Two tones, one acoustic pattern: The 24V two-tone fanfare – or two-tone horn – ensures an unmistakable acoustic presence – popular with motorhome drivers, pick-up owners and classic car fans.
Ideal for larger vehicles and tuning
Compared to the single tone group, the two-tone horn produces a voluminous sound. Ideal for 24V vehicles or drivers who want to make themselves clearly heard.
Technically robust – with style
HELLA dual-tone horns are not only powerful, but also designed for durability and demanding operating conditions. Whether rain, dust or dirt – they deliver reliable performance.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions about horns and fanfares for 12V and 24V vehicles
What is the difference between a horn and a fanfare?
A horn produces a single, clear sound – compact, functional and legally prescribed. A fanfare (e.g. two-tone) combines two tones to create a more distinctive sound – ideal for more acoustic presence or individual tuning.
What voltage do I need – 12V or 24V?
This depends on your vehicle's electrical system:
- 12V is standard for transporters, and motor homes.
- You will find 24V in lorries, buses or larger commercial vehicles.
Tip: You can clarify the situation by looking at the operating instructions or the battery.
Is a two-tone horn permitted in Germany?
Yes – provided it has an ECE approval (e.g. E1 marking). HELLA offers many models that are road legal and are compliant with the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO). This way you err on the safe side – also during the main inspection.
Can I install a HELLA horn myself?
In most cases: Yes. Our 12V and 24V horns are compact and are supplied with well designed holders which makes them easy to retrofit. Important: Switch off the ignition before installation and ensure that the wiring is correct. If you are not sure how to proceed, ask the workshop.
How loud can a horn actually be?
Road-legal horns are usually between 100 and 118 decibels – enough to be heard without causing annoyance. HELLA models are fine-tuned to sound clear, assertive and be compliant with the regulations.
Are there differences in sound between 12V and 24V horns?
Yes – 24V dual-tone horns often seem fuller and more powerful, simply because they are intended for larger vehicles. A finely-tuned 12V horn is usually sufficient for cars and transporters – both are available from HELLA in harmonised quality.
What if my vehicle doesn't have space for a large fanfare?
Not a problem: HELLA also offers compact models that can be easily accommodated – e.g. in the engine compartment or behind the bumper. Sets are also available with relays, brackets and cables to make installation even easier.
