Shanghai, 9 September 2026. International automotive supplier FORVIA HELLA has been recognized with the DVN Technology Award for its groundbreaking FlatLight | µMX lighting technology. Presented by Driving Vision News (DVN), one of the most prestigious voices in global automotive lighting, the award acknowledges FORVIA HELLA's continued leadership in lighting innovation — coming less than a year after the company's CLEPA Innovation Award for the same technology in November 2025. The recognition further validates FORVIA HELLA's strategy of bringing to market solutions that combine design ambition with measurable technical and commercial advantage.

FlatLight | µMX is built on an innovative LED light guide concept utilizing micro-optics — optical elements smaller than a grain of salt — that enable an unprecedented reduction in module depth. At just five millimeters, FlatLight | µMX requires up to 90% less installation space compared to conventional automotive lighting systems. This fundamental shift in physical form factor unlocks design possibilities that were previously unavailable to vehicle manufacturers, particularly in front and rear lamp assemblies where spatial constraints have historically limited creativity.
The technology's single optical element can simultaneously integrate multiple functions — daytime running lights, turn indicators, position lights, and rear, stop, and indicator lights — into one cohesive unit. The result is a dramatic simplification of the lighting architecture without any compromise to light performance or homogeneity.
Beyond design freedom, FlatLight | µMX delivers a compelling efficiency case. Compared to equivalent systems currently available on the market, it is 40 to 80% more energy-efficient per application and approximately 80% lighter — a combination of attributes that directly supports extended driving range for electric vehicles.
FlatLight | µMX is already in series production. Rear lamp applications entered production in 2024 followed by front daytime running light implementations. Overall, FlatLight from FORVIA HELLA is already part of customer projects with a total volume in the mid three-digit million-euro range, demonstrating that the technology has already achieved meaningful commercial scale.
