FORVIA HELLA launches new‑generation Rain Light Sensors in China

  • The sensor stands out for superior responsiveness in light rain, fully automatic operation, and a compact design

Shanghai, 28 July 2026. International automotive supplier FORVIA HELLA has put its new-generation Rain Light Sensors into series production. With high sensitivity and fully automatic adjustment, it delivers precise, real-time environmental sensing that enhances safety and supports a more comfortable in-cabin experience for consumers. The sensors are developed and produced locally in China for a well-known local new energy vehicle manufacturer, underscoring FORVIA HELLA’s commitment to localized innovation and customer-focused performance.

“Intelligence and electrification are reshaping how vehicles perceive and respond to their environment,” said Yu Wei, Senior Vice President of Business Group Electronics Product Center Components China at FORVIA HELLA and General Manager of Hella (Xiamen) Electronic Device Co., Ltd. “This new-generation Rain Light Sensor transforms complex environmental inputs into precise, automatic actions that improve visibility and elevate in-cabin comfort. Its launch showcases our strong capabilities in local development and manufacturing, ensuring cost efficiency without compromising safety or performance. Together with our OEM partners, we are turning innovation into a tangible, everyday benefits for consumers in China.”

The new-generation sensor integrates rainfall, ambient light, sunlight intensity, and windshield temperature and humidity monitoring into a single compact module. By adopting an absolute measurement principle, the sensor accurately perceives extremely fine rainfall, captures distribution and changes comprehensively, and automatically modulates wiper speed to maximize visibility. Its ambient light logic leverages infrared light from the vehicle front and visible light from the roof to enable intelligent low-beam switching while mitigating glare at night, improving on-road safety. Sunlight intensity is measured from left and right seating positions to guide more precise air-conditioning adjustments, and continuous monitoring of windshield temperature and humidity helps prevent fogging, ensuring clear vision in diverse driving conditions.

FORVIA HELLA’s solution stands out for superior responsiveness in light rain, fully automatic operation that simplifies driving, and a compact design that is easy to integrate with minimal vehicle space requirements. These attributes provide OEMs with flexible implementation options while reinforcing a customer-centric vehicle experience.
