The first LED headlamp for trucks from HELLA
The DAF LED headlamp from HELLA is the first ever LED headlamp for commercial vehicles. The special feature of this headlamp lies in its implementation of LED-based low beams. In addition, other light functions with long operating times are implemented using LEDs, including daytime running lights and position lights. HELLA provides a novel solution for headlamps based on a passive cooling concept for the first time; in this concept, two heat sinks located outside of the housing efficiently dissipate heat. Customers may still choose a halogen-lamp version as basic equipment in addition to this optional headlamp variation. A second integrated bezel differentiates the LED version from the halogen variant externally as well and lends the headlamp its particular design. Due to the special requirements in trucking, the headlamp is equipped with long-lasting, vibration-resistant LED light sources. The intensity of the low beam light is equivalent to that of xenon and with a light color similar to daylight.

The innovative DAF LED headlamp offers the customer a multitude of advantages. The use of extremely long-lasting LEDs with an average lifetime of 15,000 hours (according to the manufacturer's specifications), which normally outlasts the average life of the vehicle, means the headlamp is practically maintenance-free. This is accompanied by exceptional energy efficiency. The power consumption when using low beams is just 21 watts, which is significantly below the values for conventional solutions. In addition to lower operating costs, this also reduces CO2 emissions and therefore represents a very environmentally-friendly solution.
The light color that approximates that of daylight in combination with homogeneous illumination of the road allows drivers to see naturally and operate the vehicle with less fatigue ─ safety in road traffic is therefore greatly increased.
