Those are the sportiest electric cars - from Rimac to Nio

07/11/2019

Twelve cylinders, 600 hp and a fuel consumption of 18 litres per 100 kilometres. This is more or less how the key data of super sports cars has read up until now. But the new generation of super sports cars and hyper cars speeds along in electric mode! And that means - at least locally - without emissions but with maximum driving pleasure. In the meantime, however, not only small, upmarket car builders in their exclusive ateliers but also the renowned car manufacturers have recognised the driving dynamics and the potential of an electric future.

Mid-engine sports car Audi PB18 E-Tron

With its 680 hp, the Audi PB18 E-Tron is still a very tame model in the squad of electric super sports cars. Nevertheless, it can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just over two seconds. With a tare weight of about 1,550 kg, it has a power-to-weight ratio of 2.28 kg/hp. And the Audi, rather untypical of a sports car, boasts quite a large boot with a 470-litre volume. So if you want to be sporty while at the same time environmentally friendly and you plan on travelling with not just your hand luggage, the electric car from Ingolstadt would be a good choice for you. 50 such models are to be produced.

E-hypercar from Croatia: Rimac C_Two

In comparison to its predecessor, the Concept_One, the Croatian upmarket manufacturer has added a lot more icing on the cake to the second version of its electric super sports car. Four electric engines are now able to put an incredible 1,408 kW (equivalent to 1,914 hp) on the open road. The bottom line is this: the e-sports car, costing over a million euros, is set to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.97 seconds. A speed of 300 should be on the clock after just 11.8 seconds, with a maximum speed of 412 km/h being the uppermost limit. So that the fun keeps going as long as possible, a liquid-cooled battery pack with a capacity of 120 kWh has been installed, which should enable a range of up to 650 NEDC kilometres.

1,926 hp electric monster of Pininfarina Battista

This luxury car builder, recently based in Munich, presented a prototype at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show that is scheduled to go into series production as early as 2020. And all the straight facts are also impressive: 1,926 hp and here, too, you can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just two seconds. However, the top speed is fixed at "just" 350 km/h. And the range is planned at only 450 kilometres. The Pininfarina also has a large piece of Rimac under its bonnet as both the electric engines and also the T-shaped 120 kWh battery pack were made by the Croats

Nio EP9 from Next EV

What the Europeans manage to do, the Chinese can also master: with the EP9, the American-Chinese start-up Nio has created an electrically powered super sports car boasting 1,360 hp. Thanks to its four powerful electric engines, this sporty electric car accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds and can reach 313 km/h. The catch - as well as the purchase price which, by the way, is in the seven-figure range - is this: a total of only around 16 Nio EP9 cars are to be produced.
