Strong smell of fuel

With this kind of repair, the customer complained that a recurring strong "smell of fuel" was coming from the engine compartment area of his Dodge Nitro 2.8 l 16V CRDI (130 KW) (model years 2007-2010, engine code ENS).

 

Troubleshooting
A closer look at the engine compartment revealed that the valve responsible for the crankcase breather was faulty or leaking and was therefore causing the fuel-like smell.
A visual inspection of the fuel-carrying components revealed no leaks.

 

The solution
The faulty valve for the crankcase breather (see second picture above)
has to be replaced by a new one (OE No. 04792962AA).
