Air conditioning in vehicles – new opportunities for wholesalers

Air conditioning in a vehicle has long been much more than just a question of comfort. With the technical developments of recent years, air-conditioning technology and also heating technology have become a central component of vehicle safety, energy efficiency and system integration. This makes it increasingly important for wholesalers to provide comprehensive expertise in the field of air-conditioning service and diagnostics – regardless of whether they are dealing with combustion engines, hybrid vehicles or electric ones.

Air-conditioning systems in combustion engines – more than just comfort

In vehicles with a combustion engine, the air-conditioning system not only ensures pleasant interior temperatures, but it also plays an important role in terms of visibility, component temperatures and the overall vehicle climate. Modern air-conditioning compressors often operate variably and in an electronically controlled way, sensors monitor precise pressure and temperature values, and the requirements for leak tightness and maintenance have increased. With increasing system complexity and stricter specifications for refrigerant handling, the importance of high-quality spare parts and reliable components for wholesalers is growing.

Hybrid vehicles – complex systems, new opportunities

Hybrid vehicles make such requirements even more stringent. Because combustion and electric engines share the drive train, air-conditioning compressors often run electrically instead of being belt-driven. This means that air-conditioning systems also work when the combustion engine is paused and a vehicle is in purely electric mode. At the same time, air-conditioning systems perform important tasks for the thermal management of the high-voltage battery. Depending on the vehicle model, batteries are actively cooled – or even tempered – via the same refrigerant circuit that also air-conditions the passenger cabin. This creates a growing market potential for wholesalers: the demand for components for electric air-conditioning compressors and complex multi-circuit systems is constantly increasing.

Electric vehicles – air conditioning as a performance factor

In the case of electric vehicles, air conditioning is in actual fact an essential part of the vehicle's performance. As there is no waste heat as in the case of a combustion engine, heat pumps and ultra-modern air-conditioning modules take over both the interior heating and also the temperature control of the battery. The efficiency of air conditioning has a direct influence on range, charging performance and battery longevity. For wholesalers all this means the following: the demand for components for heat pumps, for high-voltage air-conditioning systems and for precise sensor systems is growing steadily – a market with great potential for the future.

And the trend is very obvious: air conditioning is no longer just comfort, but it constitutes a key technology. Wholesalers who offer modern air-conditioning expertise ensure for themselves long-term customer satisfaction, they strengthen their product range and optimise their focus on the mobility of the future.

Modern air-conditioning systems – a success factor for more quality, safety and future viability

At HELLA we offer an extensive and constantly growing range of IAM components for air conditioning in cars, light commercial vehicles and trucks.

As the global vehicle population will increase by 2050 and shift towards electric vehicles, HELLA will focus in the long term on underpinning, in particular, the importance of thermal management components for electric vehicles.

Our strategic focus on thermal management will enable us to shape the market for BEV applications. With the Coolant Control Hub (CCH), we connect the cooling circuits for the battery, the electric engine and the vehicle interior, thus ensuring greater efficiency, shorter charging times and a longer range for electric cars, as the thermal energy is optimally distributed.

Over time, this pioneering OE expertise will also be transferred to our IAM range so that wholesalers can also benefit directly from it.

Thermal management taken to the next level – extensive, reliable, HELLA!

In addition to the classic thermal management range, we also offer a wide selection of electrical and electronic IAM products for climate management, including sensors (e.g. air-conditioning/air quality sensors, etc.) and temperature switches.

This availability will further improve our air-conditioning product portfolio and ensure that our partners receive all the items they need from a single source.
