While the driver is turning the steering wheel, the HELLA Steering Sensor registers the torque applied on the column by the driver and the angle given to the steering wheel. The information is provided to the steering control module to calculate the appropriate assistance needed to support the driver’s action.
The combined steering torque and angle sensor from HELLA is integrated in the electromechanical power steering and offers the customer two types of feedback:
Steering torque: The sensor records the torsion bar angle required for the steering movement.
Steering angle: The sensor measures the angle and speed of change in the position of the steering wheel
Both sensor functions are integrated in one sensor and benefit from HELLA’s proprietary CIPOS® technology.
