Hand Wheel Actuators are the key components for Steer-by-Wire systems for measurement of steering wheel angle and torque feedback to the driver. It is as well a key enablers for functions like steady steering wheel, or stowable steering wheel. This new Electronics required for the cockpit of the future also allow a significant reduction of installation space and variants thanks to the wiring connection replacing the standard and bulky steering column. To fulfill all safety requirements, HELLA has developed a Fail Operational Electronics (in 2022) to enable up to Level 4 autonomous driving.
