HELLA Brings Care to Rural Children by Supporting Library Project

Shanghai, June 14, 2018. The lighting and electronics expert HELLA, in cooperation with the China Population Welfare Foundation, participated in the Library Project aiming to enhance literacy of students in rural areas and to improve their reading and writing abilities. The project also provides a source of education materials for teachers in local schools.

Volunteers from HELLA visited the Central Elementary School of Songdian in Huoqiu County, Anhui Province in May, and the Xi’nan Primary School in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province in June. HELLA donated 1,920 books and subsidized the establishment of a large reading room for nearly 1,500 students and 40 teachers at Songdian’s Central Elementary School. At the Xi’nan Primary School, HELLA donated 2,480 books to nearly 500 students and 25 teachers and set up a reading corner on the school campus. “Books broaden the horizons of children and allow them to see a different world,” said a HELLA volunteer. “We hope to enlighten more children and enable them to experience the joy of reading through the Library Project.”

"Not only did you provide us material support, but we also received spiritual comfort and encouragement which lightens our way like a beacon and propels us forward,” said a student representative at the donation ceremony. After the donation ceremony, students visited the newly-built HELLA Library, searching for their favorite books and enjoying the happiness of reading. The volunteers from HELLA also joined in the joy of the wonderful stories in the books, spending a happy and meaningful day with students and teachers.

As part of the Library Project, HELLA encouraged its employees and their friends to donate books suitable for children aged 6-12 years old. The company received donations of more than 1,000 books, all of which were sent to the two schools through the Library Project.

HELLA views corporate social responsibility as a core value and is dedicated to fulfilling its social responsibility through a host of charitable projects, of which participation in the Library Project is just an example. HELLA will continue to promote the project to more regions in China, supporting the growth and education of children as a part of its social responsibility efforts.
