High resolution lighting technology: FORVIA HELLA Develops Galaxy Diamond Matrix Headlamps for Zeekr 8X

Shanghai, 16 March 2026. International automotive supplier FORVIA HELLA has collaborated with Zeekr, the premium automotive brand of the Chinese car maker Geely, to develop Galaxy Diamond Matrix Headlamps for its super hybrid electric high‑performance flagship SUV Zeekr 8X. These headlamps are equipped with the next generation of chip-based high-definition matrix SSL|HD lighting modules. Each headlamp features around 25,000 individually and intelligently controllable pixels, elevating mobility experience and aesthetic design to a new level. On March 16, Zeekr Auto launched the model’s technical reveal and began pre-sales. The launch of these headlamps marks the very first full localization of the SSL | HD lighting technology in China.

Next-Generation SSL | HD Technology

FORVIA HELLA’s SSL | HD technology is a pioneering development and significant miniaturization of matrix LED systems. Compared to traditional headlamps, the overall installation space can be reduced by up to 75 percent, providing greater design freedom for the vehicle.

In the Zeekr 8X, a high-resolution LED chip smaller than a fingernail can generate around 25,000 pixels per headlamp. Additionally, these headlamps are equipped with an extra 16-zone adaptive lighting module beneath the main lamp, greatly enhancing core functions such as adaptive lighting and glare-free high beams, and delivering a more complex and intelligent lighting experience.

With the high-precision pixel control of SSL|HD lighting technology, these headlamps can accurately project lane markings and dynamic light signals, effectively assisting drivers in recognizing road information and improving the vehicle’s active safety performance. For example, while driving, the headlamps can project optimal driving lanes on highways or narrow construction zones, creating an extra layer of safety for drivers.

In addition, the headlamps support personalized customization of complex patterns and animation effects, including a variety of dynamic light signals such as welcome and farewell modes, pedestrian courtesy, sentry mode, and lifeform monitoring display, and can continuously enrich lighting effects through updates over the air (OTA), opening up more intelligent interactive scenarios.

A New Interpretation of Aesthetic Design

The Zeekr 8X headlamps are inspired by the design concept “Eyes Like Stars, Movement Reveals the Galaxy,” resembling a pair of eyes and ingeniously blending a sense of technology with artistic. The two horizontal light strips above and below each headlamp use innovative LED layouts and precise optical design, not only meeting regulatory requirements for position lights and direction indicators, but also, when unlit, refract rich layers and light-shadow changes from different angles, creating a dazzling diamond-like visual effect with a strong sense of luxury.

The dotted LED design on the side of the headlamps cleverly simulates a starry night sky, creating a romantic and highly technological atmosphere that adds a unique artistic touch to the vehicle.

Thanks to FORVIA HELLA’s high-precision SSL | HD matrix LED system, these headlamps can project intricate, dynamic galaxy light effects in parking mode, making the interplay of light and shadow feel almost tangible.

Their unique aesthetic design allows each light to independently showcase its distinct beauty, presenting different charms in both static and dynamic modes. This makes the headlamps a focal point of the vehicle’s front both day and night, significantly enhancing the vehicle’s differentiation.
