FORVIA HELLA Receives Municipal “Green Factory” Certificationt its Electronics Plant in Shanghai

  • The certification fully recognizes the plant’s outstanding achievements in sustainable manufacturing and its exemplary leadership in advancing sustainable development across the industry

Shanghai, 14 Jamuary 2026. International automotive supplier FORVIA HELLA announced that Shanghai Hella Electronics Co., Ltd. (HSE), its largest electronics plant worldwide, has received Shanghai’s municipal “Green Factory” certification. Following the earlier recognition of the Jiaxing Lighting Plant, Hella Shanghai Electronics becomes the next facility in China to receive this distinction, underscoring the company’s momentum in sustainable manufacturing. The selection process applies rigorous criteria including intensive land use, harmless raw materials, clean production, waste recycling, and low‑carbon energy, comprehensively assessing plants’ sustainable manufacturing capabilities to identify industry models for sustainable development. The certification for Hella Shanghai Electronics reflects FORVIA HELLA’s broad strategy and deep, practical commitment to sustainability across its operations.

“Guided by a philosophy of sustainable, intelligent, and efficient manufacturing, we integrate sustainability across the entire value chain – from raw material sourcing through production to delivery,” said Yonghui Jiao, General Manager of Hella Shanghai Electronics and Senior Vice President, Business Group Electronics Regional Operation Management China at FORVIA HELLA. “This certification is a strong endorsement of our long-term strategy. We will continue to lead by example, pursue breakthroughs in sustainable manufacturing, and accelerate the industry’s transition.”

Aligned with the group’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045, HSE has advanced an integrated program spanning products, operations, and clean energy. On the product side, the plant has deepened its focus in automotive electronics, building an innovative portfolio of environmentally friendly electronic technologies and clean energy system solutions, incorporating recyclable materials from the R&D stage. These products, such as energy management systems deliver high efficiency and energy savings, reduce CO₂ emissions on the road, and respond to rising global demand for sustainable, intelligent technologies.

In daily operation, Hella Shanghai Electronics has reduced the energy intensity by around 15% against 2024, established a closed-loop recyclable logistics system that cuts packaging waste by 20 tons annually, and deployed an automated high-density warehouse with 117,648 storage slots to resolve storage constraints and improve on-time line feeding – transforming logistics from “man seeking goods” to “goods seeking man” for greater precision and efficiency. The plant has accelerated intelligent and digital production by deploying more than 200 robots and highly automated equipment, while implementing digital energy and manufacturing management systems to enable automated, paperless, visual, and refined operations. This deep integration of intelligence and digitization optimizes resource allocation, significantly enhances productivity and product quality, and reduces waste and emissions.

To speed the clean energy transition, Hella Shanghai Electronics has maximized distributed photovoltaics, generating 1.7 million kWh annually and cutting carbon emissions by 969 tons based on Chinese average emission factor. The adoption of water‑source heat pump technology has eliminated natural gas use in production and reduced annual carbon emissions by an additional 1,300 tons.

By applying sustainable development principles across product design, energy supply, manufacturing, and waste management, Hella Shanghai Electronics has built a comprehensive, multi‑tiered sustainable manufacturing system – strengthening FORVIA HELLA’s leadership in the automotive industry’s sustainable transformation.
