Shanghai, 17 November 2025. International automotive supplier FORVIA HELLA introduces its Collision Power Module for the first time in China, extending its power backup product family that has proven strong competitiveness in the global market. Developed by the local R&D team in China, the Collision Power Module is specifically designed for post-collision passenger safety, securing instant, reliable emergency power: Combining compact design, flexible installation options, proven reliability and strong cost efficiency, it ensures that critical safety systems like door unlocking and hazard lights remain operational even after severe impacts or main power failures. This product further expands the local energy management portfolio and aligns with the industry’s strong commitment to higher vehicle safety standards. The product is expected to be launched in the first half of 2026.

“Since 2013, FORVIA HELLA has delivered over 12 million backup power products to various European automotive manufacturers already, building profound expertise in large-scale production and application”, says Binyi Bai, Executive Vice President Electronics China and Member of the Executive Board Electronics at FORVIA HELLA. “Leveraging our robust local R&D and power product know-how, our new collision power module not only expands our local energy management portfolio but also underscores our commitment to creating value for our customers and the Chinese automotive industry. We are confident that mass production of this module will drive the evolution of automotive safety technologies, providing safer and more reliable driving experiences for end users.”

Specifically designed to improve passenger safety after collision

The Collision Power Module of FORVIA HELLA incorporates advanced features to significantly improve passenger safety in extreme situations. By utilizing high-performance supercapacitors for energy storage, it delivers stable and immediate emergency power to critical safety systems during collisions, main power failures, or outages. For instance, timely and reliable door unlocking is essential for passengers to escape in accidents. The module offers reliable support for functions such as unlocking doors, releasing child locks, deploying concealed door handles, lowering windows, and activating hazard warning lights, effectively addressing power loss when the main power supply fails.

Core advantages include outstanding performance and cost efficiency

The platform supports multiple output channels, allowing it to power various safety systems simultaneously. Its modular design enables rapid adaptation for applications such as voltage regulation, auxiliary power, and backup power, effectively meeting the complex safety requirements of intelligent vehicles.

The module features an independent motor drive, enabling multiple unlock operations even if the main controller fails, and offers dual redundancy for both power and control. With integrated hardware protection and software monitoring, the system maintains functionality even if a component fails.

The module delivers reliable performance in a wide range of conditions, including extreme cold down to -40°C, supports up to 500,000 charge-discharge cycles, and has a service life up to 15 years.

Its compact design allows OEMs to integrate the module with minimal modifications to vehicle structures, enabling use across all models and improving overall safety and cost efficiency. Intelligent self-check and status monitoring functions provide self-diagnosis and fault alerts, streamlining remote management and maintenance for OEMs. In addition, the product is compatible with mainstream in-vehicle communication protocols (such as CAN and LIN), ensuring seamless integration with vehicle control systems.
