The control unit with integrated pressure pump generates either a vacuum or excess pressure. This is passed to the actuators via plastic hoses. This switches the various locks in the central locking system. Failure of the CL system is not safety-related but it does represent a loss of convenience. More than 20 million vehicles have already been fitted the devices that Hella has been manufacturing for years for OEM. This type of pneumatic locking system is mainly used in VW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz passenger cars.
The types in the Hella range cover approx. 90% of the vehicles with pneumatic locking systems.
