The technology behind the dynamic bend lighting is a Bi-Xenon® module that
swivels in the range of plus/minus 15 degrees depending on the radius of the
bend being negotiated. Thanks to this new headlamp technology, the range illuminated
by the low beam when entering a bend is increased by around 90 percent.
Drivers can recognize the course of the bend early and adapt their driving style
accordingly. Active bend lighting works with both low beam and high beam, and
reacts according to the respective driving speed: whereas when the vehicle is
traveling at low speed the headlamps follow the angle of the steering wheel
within fractions of a second, the swiveling mechanism works correspondingly
more slowly at high speeds, in order to distribute the light as required by
the driver. Dynamic headlamp leveling ensures that the headlamps always remain
at the prescribed height both in the case of changes in load and when setting
off and braking, to make sure that oncoming traffic is not dazzled.
