Turning Night into Day |
|
The combined use of high-performance electronics and state-of-the-art lighting technology resulted in a revolutionary lighting concept: Xenon Gas Discharge (XGD).
The development of Xenon lighting technology has been recognised as the biggest breakthrough in terms of road safety and driver comfort in the history of automotive lighting.
Xenon Gas Discharge
Xenon lighting systems provide twice the light output for a brighter and wider road illumination whilst consuming only 2/3 the power of conventional Halogen lighting systems. In addition, Xenon lighting systems produce a light that is very similar to daylight, which is why Xenon technology is used to light up sport stadiums.
Xenon globes use an electric current passed through Xenon gas to produce light, rather than a filament. Not only does this method require minimal electric current draw compared to filament lighting, it is also very close to natural daylight. As there is no filament, Xenon Gas Discharge systems are shock proof and have a service life of approx. 2,500 hours (50 times the life of a 100W H1 Halogen globe), making them ideal for roughest environments in mining, commercial transport and 4WD applications.
Xenon Technology for More Safety
The risk of having an accident during the night is about twice as high as during the day – despite the fact that there is less traffic on the road. The reason: humans are inadequately equipped to see at night or in poor weather conditions. The better you see and the more similar the light conditions are to daylight, the better the compensation for the factors that make night driving difficult:
- Increase your range of vision at night, effectively reducing your chances of being involved in an accident
- Ease the difficulty of night driving, minimising the chances of driver fatigue
- Make your vehicle more visible to others motorists on the road
- Even with good lighting, driving during the day is safer than driving at night – but with Hella, you can rest assured that you are doing all you can to protect yourself, your vehicle and other road users.
Xenon lighting provides twice the light output of a conventional H7 Halogen globe and offers a light colour more similar to daylight – effectively reducing eyestrain and driver fatigue. Drivers gain increased peripheral vision and in turn, promote higher concentration and attention to road markings and signage, objects and traffic situations ahead.
Advantages of Xenon Lighting
- Twice the light of standard halogen globes whilst consuming less than half the power
- Colour rendering is similar to daylight – effectively reduces eye strain and driver fatigue
- Considerably improved illumination of the road and edge of the road – obstacles are recognised faster
- Steady level of brightness even if power supply varies
- Impact and vibration resistant light arc ensures a globe service life five times longer than standard halogen globes.
