Hella lights the way for Aston Martin Racing LMP Sportscars

May 10, 2011 - The world's leading original equipment and aftermarket automotive lighting product designer and manufacturer, HELLA, will light up the Aston Martin Racing LMP Sportscar Team for a third season in 2011.

HELLA has equipped Aston Martin Racing's new ground-up developed AMR-One LMP1 racer with state of the art headlights for new season. The HELLA lighting concept was developed together with the Aston Martin Racing Team and has been used successfully during the past two racing seasons.

HELLA's racing headlamp design is based on the same outstanding quality HELLA products that are available to motorists wordwide. The HELLA headlamps fitted to the factory Aston Martin Racing Team Sportscars meet the requirements of high illumination, coupled with reduced overall weight. The spotlights are based on the HELLA Rallye Compact Xenon and have been optimally adapted to fit the frontal design of the AMR-One LMP 1 racer.

The HELLA Rallye Compact Xenon is one of the leading products in Hella's vast auxiliary headlight range and guarantees white Xenon light that replicates the colour of daylight that can lluminate the road ahead for a distance of almost 500 metres.

In addition, the HELLA lighting concept used by Aston Martin Racing includes 90 millimetre Xenon modules. Events like the world famous Le Mans 24 Hour include unlit roads with poor visibility and more often than not bad weather also reduces visibility during the daytime. It is of the utmost importance to have optimum lighting equipment if a team is going to be successful in endurance racing.

According to George Howard-Chappell, Aston Martin Racing Technical Director, "We decided in favour of HELLA technology because we did not want to make any compromises as far as lighting is concerned."

HELLA Australia Marketing Communications Manager Tomas Plessinger explains the intrinsic link that exists between HELLA's motorsport developed products and the Hella lighting products available to the Australian aftermarket.

"We offer identical product in Australia to that which is lighting the road for the Aston Martin Racing Sportscars. The HELLA Rallye Compact Xenon lamp is available here in pencil or spread beam and is already very well established in commercial transport and 4WD market segments"

The HELLA equipped Aston Martin LMP Sportscar is powered by a six litre V12 engine based on the original Aston Martin DB9 road cars, with twin overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. It develops 650 plus brake horsepower and 700 Nm of tourque with a maximum RPM of 7,500.
