HELLA promotes switch to LED lighting to increase safety on the roads

New LED auxiliary indicator provides quick response times and optimal illumination while dispensing with the need for maintenance and replacement lamps


Lippstadt, October 30, 2013. HELLA, the lighting expert, is launching a new auxiliary indicator featuring innovative LED technology for use on buses, CVs, trucks, and trailers (category 6). With this product, HELLA is specifically promoting the conversion of automotive lighting systems to LEDs, and is hoping to use the benefits of the technology to improve safety on the roads - quick response times, optimal illumination, and no need for maintenance or lamp replacements. The new product will be available from January 2014.

The new LED auxiliary indicator builds on existing, commercially established bulb variants (2BM 006 692 and 2BM 008 355). The product is designed for horizontal mounting and is available in a frame version or as a self-adhesive variant. The first option, consisting of a frame and the lamp module, makes it easy to switch from light bulbs to LEDs: The module is fastened in the appropriate place and the lamp is connected via cables or AMP Superseal connectors. The frame, which is fastened securely to the lamp module by applying gentle pressure, covers the pocket on the vehicle and the fixing screws. The shape of the frame can also be modified and adapted to customer specifications on request. The self-adhesive variant, on the other hand, has an adhesive strip and can be attached quickly and securely by pressing it on to the vehicle.

Thanks to the integrated LED technology, the new product demonstrates optimal light distribution whilst reducing power consumption by up to 83 percent in comparison with the light bulb variant. At the same time, the extremely long design life of the LEDs dispenses with the need for maintenance and replacement lamps. This is supported by optimal thermal management. The new auxiliary indicator is resistant to vibrations and is protected against the ingress of dust and water when submerged for prolonged periods of time (protection class IP 6K9). It is ECE type-tested and suitable for use in 12 and 24-volt vehicle electric systems.
