Lippstadt, April 28, 2016.
HELLA KGaA Hueck & Co., a leading global automotive supplier, is planning to open a new development center for automotive lighting technology. By building a new development facility in the Stuttgart region, the lighting and electronics specialist based in the North Rhine-Westphalian Lippstadt is responding to growing demand for LED technologies while getting closer to customers in the region.
"The Stuttgart region has traditionally been one of the leading technology centers for the automotive industry," said CEO Dr. Rolf Breidenbach. "By building a new facility in the area, we want to benefit from both the location and forge ahead with the development of innovative lighting technologies."
The new location will seamlessly integrate with the part supplier's global development network while creating needed capacity. The new location will focus specifically on developing innovative LED products and components for customers in southern Germany. During the initial expansion phase, the new development center – opening in the fall of 2016 – will employ about 25 people. Perspectively staff numbers are set to increase to more than 100.
HELLA produces headlamps, rear lamps, signal lights, interior lights and components for lighting electronics in its lighting technology sector. Along with the worldwide center for lighting technology development at its headquarters in Lippstadt, HELLA also operates additional development centers in China, the U.S., Mexico, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. Revenue in this division alone was approximately 2.4 billion euros in the 2014/15 fiscal year. HELLA is thus one of the leading global suppliers of automotive lighting technologies. Going forward, HELLA plans to use the expected growth in market demand for LED headlights to expand market share in LED lighting solutions for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
